Potential Fuel Pump Hazard

By Mike Palermo Jr.

While working with engines on the dyno, I have experienced a situation which I think is worth mentioning.

When I went to remove the fuel lines from the brass fittings on the pump, on several occasions, one or the other fittings pulled out of the casting. These pumps all had the pressed in brass tubes, as opposed to the early style with the threaded collars.

Had these tubes popped out during a dyno run on a hot engine, the results could have been quite serious, but nothing compared to the potential tragedy had it happened at speed in someone's car.

Therefore, I recommend that the latest style pump with the stamped steel body and welded tubes be used. I prefer this unit over the original one for the reason that the threaded fittings are hard to come across, and I have seen them leak on occasion.

Good Racing!!!
